I'm a recent boardgamer convert and watching video reviews helped me get into the hobby so I was especially happy to see another person start doing video reviews (ala Scott). Like the others have mentioned, I think the video review length was good and not long at all. I prefer to have in-depth reviews, which you did well. Also loved the close-up inserts.

You definitely got my interested piqued about Notre Dame. I just bought In The Year of the Dragon but I may pick up Notre Dame and introduce it to my non-gamer friends instead. So far they've enjoyed my light games, like Downfall of Pompeii and Ticket To Ride, but I haven't yet dared to get them to play heavier games, so this sounds like a good next level gateway game. I'd be curious to see what games have and have not been successful in your gaming group as they sound like my group -- they like to play games because of me, but have no desire to research or much less buy games.

Looking forward to your future reviews!

Hi,

Thanks for the video review. As well as deciding whether or not to purchace a game, I love learning to play using the videos. I thought I'd clarify something, since I am just learning to play. In your review, you state the City Guard (A) gives one Prestige for each district that you have a cube in, but in the rules it states that it gives 1 presige for each cube in all districts. According to the rules it seems the Carpenter (C) does what you explained. If I have misinterpereted, I apologise.

And the length of the review is perfect. Having a video to play and replay is a great opportunity to go into depth that you cant while teaching someone in person (who more often that not just wants to "learn as they go").

Thanks again,

Jugg

Great Review of Notre Dame!
I just wanted to add 2 corrections. Not sure you either knew these or just said it different when explaining the rules. The Doc card lets you get 0 rats that phase, not move your rat marker back to 0. Also, you get the Plague when the rat marker gets to the boat past 9, not when it reaches 9. So if it is on 9 you are still safe from the Plague.
I am very much looking forward to your next review!

Yes, great first video. I especially liked the close ups of the cards/bits that appeared in the upper left.

I would suggest trimming your evaluation segment- it was about 1/3 of the review, and it could easily have been half as long.

Personally, I like to know how a game group can immerse itself in the theme. I know ND is a Euro and there's not much theme there, but for other games- ie Fantasy Flight style- that would eb a bonus that I don't see much on other review sites. Most reviewers cover mechanics and mention theme only in passing.

Just my 2 cents. And I've bookmarked you.

I´m just happy to see a new video reviewer with a high quality video, specially now that Scott is kind of lost. Obsesed with games reviews are not enough for my, now that I´m building my collection.

It´s a luck that just now I´m trying to complete an order and Notre Dame could be the last game on it. I´m gonna finish waching the video latter, feed us with so many video reviews as you can ;)

PD: By the way, I think that the perfect lenght for a good video review is between 20 and 30 minutes, obviously depending the game complexity. Less can be to light, and more can be a little hard. So, good lengh for your first try, I will bookmark you. Do you have some periodicity planed for the reviews?

Hey Rob - nice first whack at a video review. You mentioned Boardgames with Scott... and you say above that you think the review is to long. I don't thing that it is to long... if the material is laid out well and you move through your review in an ordered and coherent way I think the review can be as long or longer. Note that Scott's videos can run quit long. Look forward the next episode.
